Obesity is a world-wide problem. China, Japan and even Korea, who have never before had to worry about obesity, are now seeing the numbers on the scales rise higher and higher. No one seems to be immune to the ever increasing waistline. Is the human race destined to be fat? If not, what is causing this phenomenon? There answer is really just inadequate nutrition. We need to place a higher emphasis on nutrition when it comes to what and how much we are eating. It is easy to see why obesity is on the rise when fast food restaurants are in almost every town, portion sizes continue to increase in size, and foods contain fat, sugar, and preservatives. An answer does exist, though it can only be found by learning about proper nutrition. Food As Fuel Today we keep our focus on food and it's taste, as well as the quantity of it we eat, and we often overlook the basic fact that food is just our fuel. Our body turns the food we eat into energy, in order to keep us moving each day. We develop fat when we give our body too much fuel. When taking fat into consideration, our body's are merely acting as they were designed. It is not our body's way of getting back at us or being spiteful. Aside from preventing starvation, fat basically provides heat to our body and insulation to our bones, internal organs and even to our muscles. Eating exorbitantly without following a daily exercise regime, causes our body to turn excess calories in to fat. Because of our daily eating habits, the body fat increases very fast. Balance Is Important Balance is at the center of good nutrition. You can still eat your favorite meals, snacks and sweets. These should be sensibly balanced so that you don't end up gaining too much weight. Fruits, vegetables, and lean meats should be eaten, as well as vitamins or other nutrition supplements. You can reward yourself to a treat or desert, for sticking to your nutrition plan during the entire week. When it comes to a healthy weight remember as long as you exercise enough to burn off extra calories you can splurge once or twice a week. Are You Overweight? When you are overweight, proper nutrition and exercise can help you lose that weight. For those who already eat a balanced diet, try eating smaller meals more often. (like six meals daily) and regular intervals of exercise, thirty minutes long and three to five times a week, can help to ensure that the weight will come off. Unfortunately, there is no silver bullet for weight loss. It can be a difficult process. But you don't have to kill yourself with exercise like the people on the TV informercials do. If your nutrition is balanced, you can burn enough calories to lose weight with just a few walks around the block each day.
